BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Delmarva Shorebirds,
Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, along with the Baltimore Orioles
are pleased to announce the 2017 Delmarva Shorebirds Coaching Staff.
Ryan Minor returns as Delmarva’s manager for
the fourth straight year and seventh overall. During his Shorebirds managerial
career, he has racked up a total of 376 wins, making Minor the winningest
manager in franchise history.
The 2017 season will be Minor’s 10th as a
coach or manager in the Orioles’ organization.
Minor will be joined in Delmarva by Justin
Lord, the club’s pitching coach. Lord also served as the pitching coach for the
Shorebirds in 2013. He has been a pitching coach for the Aberdeen Ironbirds the
last three seasons. Lord played in the Kansas City Royals’ and Pittsburgh
Pirates’ organizations for a total of five years before closing out his playing
career with the independent St. Paul Saints in the American Association.
The Shorebirds’ new hitting coach will be Buck
Britton, brother of Baltimore Orioles pitcher and former Delmarva Shorebird,
Zach Britton. Buck was also a Shorebird when he played three games for the club
in 2009 after being drafted by Baltimore in the 35th round of the 2008 draft.
This will be the first season that Buck will be a coach, as he just ended a
nine year Minor League playing career, most recently with the Rochester
Redwings of the Minnesota Twins organization.
Marty Brinker enters his first season as
Delmarva’s athletic trainer after serving in the same capacity for the past two
seasons with the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
“We are excited to welcome the new members of
the coaching staff along with some familiar faces as well. We look forward to
this staff being able to lead the Shorebirds to a successful 2017 season on the
diamond,” said Shorebirds General Manager, Chris Bitters.
