Pittsburgh sends 25 to West Virginia Including Two Returning Players
The Power opens the season on April 6 at home against Rome

CHARLESTON, WV (April 5, 2017) – The West Virginia Power, a Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are pleased to announce their initial roster for the 2017 campaign. The Opening Day roster features two returning Power players and a top-30 Pirates prospect, according to Baseball America.

Two players spent a portion on the Power roster last season have returned. Infielder Stephan Alemais returns after only playing 11 games with the Power in 2016 in his first pro year. However, Alemais, a third-round draft pick, is ranked as the number 29 prospect in the Pirates’ organization, according to Baseball America. Logan Ratledge also makes his return to West Virginia after splitting time in 2016 between the Power and the Bradenton Marauders. The roster holds eight non-drafted free agents to oppose 17 taken out of the draft (11 drafted in 2016).

This year’s Opening Day roster features a slew of former West Virginia Black Bears members; thirteen players, just over half of the roster (25) played for the Black Bears in 2016. Manager Wyatt Toregas and Athletic Trainer Matt DenBleyker were a part of the Black Bears’ staff last season as well.

The 2017 season begins on Thursday, April 6, as the West Virginia Power welcome the 2016 South Atlantic League champion Rome Braves for a 7:05 P.M. match-up. The first homestand of the season lasts seven days (through April 12) with another seven game homestand starting on April 20 to close out the first month of the season.
